DJ Slickster, #1 Jock on the Block was born and grew up in Carver Ranches, Fl. Growing up listening to Run DMC, LL Cool J, Slick Rick, Tupac, Outkast, Goodie Mobb, Ice Cube, Too Short influenced his game. At the age of 14 as a football player, his dreams and aspirations were to be an NFL star till the music lighting struck. DJ Slickster’s first break came at Inferno Lounge in Hallandale, Fl.
DJ Slickster’s game really started in 1993 with Audio funk who were the pioneers of the game. Audio Funk encouraged and influenced Gibbs to catapult his career. Slickster started playing at Festivals from the Martin Luther King both Broward and Dade, Brown Sugar Festival- Clewston, Goombay in Coconut Grove, Sistrunk Festival –Fort Lauderdale to Black Bike Week in Myrtle Beach- South Carolina.
Slickster kept his game on in the college scene playing for Howard University Homecoming in New York, Frat parties –several divisions of Q-dogs, Florida International University, Florida Memorial, North Carolina State, Sororities – Sigma Gamma Rou at Florida State and the list goes on.
Travis got certified in Audio Technician/Engineering since 2001 after schooling at North Carolina State, Virginia Tech and Tide Water Technical in Norfolk Virginia. His apprenticeship certification was done at Virginia Amphitheatre in Suffolk.
Dj Slickster started his sound battles in the Top Battle Games with Uncle Al, Ghetto style Dj’s (Luke Skywalker) and Triple M. Sound battles inspired him to get a into a real Mic-Talking-MC game. He always knew that a good DJ is not only turning tables, but he is good with Mic rocking skills.
In 1999, DJ Slickster went on to start up his own venture, hence the start of Funkside Entertainment and Labtronix Productions (Captain Corn, Lou Baby, Funkside Riders, Labtronics Productions). With the new company, DJ Slickster kept up his fame in the game with Big Sound Events and Multi-stage shows with Sony Music Group, DJ Drama, DJ Khaled, DJ Enuff, Fingerprints, DJ Entice, DJ Nasty from North and South Florida. He’s also provided sound and music for corporate companies such as Motorola, University of Miami, Miami Heat, Florida Marlins, countless local parties both nightclubs and venues and religious organizations.
Currently, DJ Slickster is also working as an A&R and always scouting and recording new talent both local and international. He has been Engineering and producing for the past 10 years. You can find him at Big Sound Shows and at strip clubs from Atlanta to South Florida such as Flames, Strokers, Club Nikki, Club Rolex, Club 112 Miami & Atlanta, Sugar Daddy’s Pompano.
